SJB has extensive experience in the aircraft seating industry, working with multiple OEM’s across all sections of the cabin. We have supported the development of: new products, moving product into a high volume environment, service support, and joint development programs with customers and airframers.

Seating Development

Economy

SJB has extensive experience in single and twin aisle economy seating development. With involvement in all stages of the process from early conceptual and Advanced Product Development through to production and in service Product Support.

Our experience encompasses mass and cost optimised lightweight economy (short haul / single aisle) right through to full IFE, articulating seatpan long haul economy (generally Twin Aisle).

Specific projects include:

  • Acro’s Series 6 (Air New Zealand’s new short haul international seat)

  • Acro future “X” projects in long haul economy and mass optimised seating.

  • Mirus new Product, including, Kestrel, Falcon & Hawk 2

Premium Economy

SJB Consulting’s experience includes design and development of Premium Economy seating from conceptual through to production stages (including build support).

Business Class

SJB have been responsible for engineering two business class seats. Our involvement spanned the development process, including:

  • Concept design and development (including suite layout and LOPA work); working with Acumen Design Associates to align Engineering and Industrial Design.

  • Ergonomic / space assessment mockups (design and manufacture)

  • Mechanical component concept design, prototyping iterations, and design for production (seat mechanisms, tables, armrests, monitor mechanisms)

  • Shrouding design (composite panels/shrouds, vac forms, trim development)

  • Sales prototype purchasing and build support.

  • Development of engineering process (setting up standard practises for documentation and ways of working)
