Our team
James Bowker
After completing my university education, I embarked on my engineering journey with Martin Aircraft Company, where I worked on the mechanical design and programming of a full motion flight simulator. This experience eventually led me to join a small jetpack development team. The advantage of working in a small team meant that I had the opportunity to be involved in every aspect of the development process, from concept generation and prototyping to detailed design, analysis, manufacturing, assembly, and even testing, where I served as the lead test pilot.
This early work in my career ignited my passion for new product design and development, particularly when collaborating with a small and dynamic team. It allowed me to fully appreciate the entire process of bringing a product to life.
Later on, I transitioned to larger companies, which provided me with valuable insights into the processes involved in medium to high volume design and manufacturing.
In my personal time, you will often find me at my desk, designing products for Virtual Reality as I actively participate in VR gaming competitions. Additionally, I greatly enjoy spending quality time with my family and immersing myself in outdoor activities, albeit not to the same extent as Sam.
In summary, my experience in engineering, ranging from full motion flight simulators to jetpacks, has instilled in me a strong passion for new product design and development. Whether working as part of a small team or within larger organizations, I bring a wealth of knowledge and a dedication to seeing projects through to successful completion.

In the early stages of my engineering career, I gained valuable experience in production line automation and provided mechanical consulting services for a small firm. This gave me a solid foundation in both technical and business aspects of engineering.
Since then, I've had the privilege of collaborating with innovative companies across the globe, working on product development in countries like New Zealand, China, England, America, Oman, and Italy. My involvement has spanned a wide range of products, from aircraft seats to heavy-duty port equipment. What I believe sets me apart is my ability to bring together all aspects of the engineering process, ensuring the successful realization of a product.
During my free time, you'll often find me outdoors engaging in activities like mountain biking, surf skiing, ski touring, running, and hiking. Alternatively, you might catch me tinkering in my garage, working on personal projects.
Overall, I bring a wealth of experience, a comprehensive understanding of the engineering process, and a passion for both personal and professional growth. I am confident in my ability to contribute to the successful development and realization of any project I undertake.

I joined the team in early 2021. After recently graduating from the University of Canterbury I completed a short stint in a primarily analytical role. It has been satisfying to get hands-on in the everyday problem-solving tasks and mechanical design projects here at SJB.
I have a soft spot for the mountains of NZ and spend time tramping, climbing, and skiing in them when I’m able to, and often thinking about how to when not.

I graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Canterbury in 2023 and joined SJB Consulting in September of the same year. My career began in motorsport engineering, where I had the privilege of working with Rodin Cars and supporting driver Liam Lawson on track with the Rodin FZED.
I am deeply passionate about engineering and continuously strive to expand my knowledge and skills. Despite being relatively new to the professional world, my enthusiasm and commitment to self-improvement drive me to excel in my role.
Outside of work I have been driving race cars for 6 years now, managing to win a few trophies along the way. I am also working towards obtaining my Private Pilot’s License (PPL).
At SJB Consulting, I am excited to contribute to our projects and collaborate with our talented team, leveraging my motorsport engineering background and my dedication to continuous learning and development
